Meghan Markle attended a state dinner in Fiji on Tuesday with Prince Harry in tow. But the Duchess of Sussex wasn’t photographed with a tiara.

Kate Middleton, on the other hand, attended a state banquet at the Buckingham Palace on Tuesday night and was photographed with the Lover’s Knot tiara.

Martina Bet, a journalist for Express, said that royal protocols regarding the use of tiara have nothing to do with the ranks of Middleton and Markle’s husbands or their positions in line to the throne.

Rather, wearing a tiara is dependent on the dress code of the event, as well as the royal’s personal preference. Markle may have opted to not wear a tiara to the state dinner because doing so would mean traveling with the pricey jewelry from London to Fiji.

Despite going tiara-free, the “Suits” alum still stunned in her full-length gown by Safiyaa. Markle’s blue attire showcased her growing baby bump. Prince Harry, on the other hand, wore a suit and bow tie to the event. He also displayed his military medals.

While at the state dinner, Fiji President Jioji Konrote, praised Prince Harry and mentioned Princess Diana in his speech. He said that the late Princess of Wales would have been proud of the man that the Duke of Sussex has become. Konrote also said that Princess Diana would’ve been glad to know that her son found happiness with Markle.

Prince Harry also spoke at the event and said that being there felt nostalgic.

“This visit is particularly nostalgic for us as a young married couple – my grandparents stayed in this very hotel, the Grand Pacific, a number of times over the years. But this visit is also an opportunity to learn more about the future of Fiji, your economic growth, sustainable tourism development, and social enterprises. We are really looking forward to meeting the students at the University of the South Pacific and the young leaders from all walks of life,” he said.
