Nikolaj Coster-Waldau has some interesting Jaime theories for the final season of “Game of Thrones.” HBO

“Game of Thrones” is still a little while away from airing its final season, but fans are potentially getting their first hints at how things will play out in the last episodes of the series.

In an interview with The Huffington Post, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau teased what could happen to his character, Jaime Lannister, during the show’s final episodes. While refusing to give away how things end, he discussed the possible scenarios Jaime could find himself in based on where his character left things off in 2017’s Season 7 finale.

At the time, after realizing his sister/lover Cersei (Lena Headey) had lied when she said she would send the Lannister armies North to help fight against the White Walkers, the two became engaged in a tense showdown, which ended with Jaime deserting her and heading North as snow began to fall in King’s Landing. However, while fans assume he will make it all the way North to Winterfell, where Jon (Kit Harington), Daenerys (Emilia Clarke), Tyrion (Peter Dinklage) and more will be fighting, Coster-Waldau teased that it’s not a guarantee Jaime would get very far.

“Well, he is heading north. I don’t think you can assume that he’s going to make it up there, but who knows,” he said. “For sure. We see him head north.”

He went on to theorize just what could happen to Jaime along the way, hinting how the character could potentially meet his end, or even how he can finally move on from the love he had for Cersei.

“He might be eaten by dragons, you never know,” he added. “Or he might just stumble, things happen. Or he might find the love of his life and suddenly he’s like, ‘God, this is it. No more.’”

The actor didn’t divulge if Jaime would wind up with Brienne (Gwendoline Christie) if he made it all the way to Winterfell, meaning fans who have shipped the two characters together since Season 3 will have to continue waiting. However, he did also reveal a hint that there was a chance he would make it all the way North, by discussing the fact that his character is one of the few in Westeros who is in possession of a Valyrian Steel sword.

“Yes, you would think it’d come in handy if you had to fight the White Walkers. It’s true,” he said. “But who knows.”

“Game of Thrones” does not have a specific return date, but is expected to hit HBO in early 2019.
