Fans won’t know anything for sure until 2019, when “Game of Thrones” finally returns to TV screens for its final season. However, some new information has emerged which could suggest that one fan-favorite character is set to die during the final episodes.

In a new interview with Vulture, Peter Dinklage, who has portrayed Tyrion Lannister since the show’s first season, discussed the final episodes of the hit HBO series, and in the process, may have dropped the biggest clue yet about his character’s fate when the show comes to an end.

“I feel very, very—I’m trying to find the right word. I think he was given a very good conclusion. No matter what that is—death can be a great way out,” he said.

The comment is potentially one of the most telling by far that has come from any cast members regarding how the show comes to an end. While he naturally didn’t spoil anything for fans, stating that death could be a great way for a character to go may be a hint that prior theories about how his arc ends may actually be ones that will come true.

Tyrion currently serves as Hand of the Queen to Daenerys (Emilia Clarke), but fans have often questioned whether he will remain loyal to her in the final season. In fact, during Season 7, there were several moments with his character where he seemed to be on the fence about who he truly supported. He appeared torn during the Loot Train Attack, as he watched his brother, Jaime (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) charge at Daenerys and Drogon and verbally wished his brother would run in the other direction. There were also key moments in the Season 7 finale, as he met with Cersei (Lena Headey) and learned of her pregnancy, and later, as he stood outside Daenerys’ bedroom while she and Jon (Kit Harington) had sex inside.

It’s long been speculated that Daenerys would be betrayed by one of her closest advisors at some point due to a prophecy that her character was given in the books the show is based on. In that prophecy, Daenerys learned she would be betrayed three times—once for blood, once for gold and once for love. Though the prophecy was not explicitly alluded to on the show, there have been moments that seemed to act it out, with her son’s death in an attempt to save Drogo (Jason Momoa) in season one serving as the blood betrayal, while learning that Jorah (Iain Glen) had betrayed her to King Robert (Mark Addy) served as the betrayal for gold.

The love betrayal has yet to happen, and many have believed it would be fulfilled through something with Jon in the final season. However, it could also apply to Tyrion, as his love for his family could see him betraying her.

If that were the case, and Daenerys was to emerge victoriously and on the Iron Throne once all the fighting came to an end, then Dinklage’s comments about death would be a huge clue about his character’s fate. If he did go through with betraying Daenerys and survived the coming battles, he would be executed for treason.

Of course, fans will have to wait until the series returns for its final episodes to learn anything for certain. “Game of Thrones” returns in 2019, but a specific date has not been revealed.
