While George RR Martin is currently busy finishing “Winds of Winter,” he has acknowledged in a recent blog post that “A Song of Ice and Fire” series would not exist without J.R.R. Tolkien. A movie based on the late fantasy author will premiere next month, and the “Game of Thrones” author will be heading to Los Angeles to attend.

In a recent blog post, Martin wrote that Tolkien’s work “redefined” the fantasy genre and it even had an impact on his own work. He added that many of the authors who came after “A Lord of the Rings” writer followed in his footsteps.

A new film based on Tolkien’s life will premiere on May 8, and Martin announced that he will be going to Los Angeles to attend the premiere. He will be there at the Regency Westwood Village, and after the film he will host a Q&A and discussion with the stars of the movie.

Martin announced on his official Twitter page that the stars of the film Nicholas Hoult and Lilly Collins will be there to discuss the movie and answer fan questions, along with the director Dome Karukoski. Hoult plays the role of Tolkien in the movie.

While the discussion is supposed to be about “Tolkien” movie, it remains to be seen if Martin will get asked about the progress he has made in writing “Winds of Winter.” The author tends to repeatedly ask his followers on his blog to stick to the topic discussed in a post because he gets asked about the next book quite often.

Martin had previously announced on Twitter that he will be featured in the premiere episode of Neil deGrasse Tyson’s “STARTALK” Season 4. As previously reported, the author spoke about an “interesting take” on unicorns in “Winds of Winter” during that episode.
