After getting involved in different projects that include books and TV shows, George R.R. Martin has finally gotten back to finishing “Winds of Winter.” The long awaited novel is only the penultimate in the “A Song of Ice and Fire” series, and the author has promised to complete the story.

Martin is back from his “Fire & Blood” book tour. This new book, which has just been released, is an imaginary history of Westeros that starts with the arrival of Aegon the Conqueror and his dragons in the Seven Kingdoms. In his recent blog post, Martin expressed his excitement about the book doing well in different countries and also talked about “Winds of Winter.”

Towards the end of the post, Martin thanked his fans and readers for their patience and their “unflagging” support. Martin is aware that many of his fans are waiting for the next installment of “A Song of Ice and Fire.”

“I am going to give it to you,” the author promised.

After the hectic book tour, Martin confirmed that he is back at his desk, in solitude, finishing “Winds of Winter.” There still appears to be a fair amount of writing left because the author said that the fans shouldn’t expect an early released date just because he has started writing again. He, however, emphasized that he “will” complete “A Song of Ice and Fire” series.

“Winds of Winter” may be released only after “Game of Thrones” Season 8 airs, as Martin asked the fans to watch the show while he completes the book. The other news the fans can follow is about the untitled first spin-off series, for which the casting will begin soon.

Martin was recently a guest at the “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” where he was asked about “Winds of Winter,” Entertainment Weekly reported. The author was promoting “Fire & Blood” there, and Colbert asked him why he took a 700-page detour instead of finishing “A Song of Ice and Fire.” Martin promised that he will work on this next and that he may finish the series before writing the second part of “Fire & Blood.”

The “Fire & Blood” book tour took Martin to New York City and New Jersey, the author revealed on Twitter. The author met with his publishers and editors during the press tour. It remains to be seen what new deadline for “Winds of Winter” Martin has in mind.
