A 36-year-old woman in India has ended up behind bars for allegedly spiking her husband's food for six years with drugs prescribed for obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD).

The police arrested 36-year-old Asha Suresh, hailing from the southern state of Kerala, following the complaint of her husband, Satheesh, India Today reported.

The woman's husband said they had been married since 2006; however, the union was a tumultuous one, and, according to Satheesh, Suresh would often fight with him over trivial issues.

From 2015, Satheesh reportedly began experiencing symptoms such as fatigue. He then consulted a doctor, who said he suffered from hypoglycemia and prescribed him pills. However, he did not recover.

Satheesh found his health improving in September after he avoided having home cooked food for 20 days. He immediately suspected he was being poisoned, and began investigating. He approached his wife's friend and asked her to find out if Suresh was spiking his food. Satheesh also installed a CCTV inside his home to monitor Suresh's moves.

The woman began talking to Suresh, who finally confessed to spiking her husband's food with drugs for the last six years. She also sent an audio message to her friend, saying her mother did the same to her father. "He is now a toothless lion. No trouble," Suresh told the friend, about her father.

The friend immediately forwarded the audio clips to Satheesh, who approached the police with it. He also submitted the footage and images of the drugs used on him.

The police conducted a raid at their home and seized the drugs. During their preliminary investigation, the police found Suresh also deceived her teen daughter into spiking the man's drinking water, saying the medicines were a cure for his anger issues, media outlet onmanorama reported.

The police said the pills they recovered from Suresh's home were tested in a laboratory, and the results showed the drugs were prescribed for OCD. Its prolonged use could reportedly result in mental illness or even death, the police added.

The authorities will reportedly launch an investigation into Suresh's claim her mother did the same to her father.
