A man has been arrested after a woman and her newborn baby were found dead in a home in Greenville County, South Carolina.

Deputies responded to a 911 call about a missing woman at a home on the 200 block of Saw Mill Road on Wednesday evening. They found a woman and her recently-born baby boy dead in the home, reported Counton2.

The Greenville County Coroner's Office identified the victim as Clarissa Michelle Winchester, 22.

The accused, 21-year-old Tyler Wilkins, was charged with murder, kidnapping and unlawful neglect of a child after investigators found he failed to provide medical attention for the baby.

Wilkins, who was the father of the child, also allegedly confined Winchester inside the home and assaulted her, which led to her death, WSPA reported, citing the arrest warrant.

Winchester died from blunt force trauma of the head and neck, an autopsy performed by the coroner's office confirmed. Her death was ruled a homicide. Authorities are still investigating to establish the exact cause and manner of the newborn's death.

Wilkins was denied bond on all three charges at a court appearance Thursday. Michael Winchester, the father of the victim, urged the judge to keep him behind bars.

"If you give this boy the opportunity to see daylight again, we already know that not only is he capable, but statistically he is most likely to commit this crime again," he said, WYFF4 reported.

A background check by the state law enforcement division revealed Wilkins was charged with domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature, attempted murder and possession of a weapon in December last year. Wilkins posted a bond of over $4,000 and was released in January, according to county records.

Wilkins was also a suspect in the disappearance of South Carolina woman Jorden Nebling, who went missing without a trace on Oct. 10, 2020. She was 19 years old at the time, Fox Carolina said. Mary Tucker, Nebling's stepmother, said Wilkins was in a romantic relationship with the girl.

Wilkins allegedly told investigators he and Nebling had an altercation after he had driven her to his place. Following the argument, she left the home and never contacted him.
