A woman in India has been arrested for pouring acid on her husband after he questioned her about coming home late.

The terrifying incident happened in Kanpur, a city in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, on Jan.28. The man, identified as Dabbu Gupta, suffered serious injuries to his face, and his wife, identified by the name Poonam, was arrested, police said Monday, reported The Times of India.

Gupta shared a video online narrating his ordeal, which has gone viral. The 40-year-old claimed that the argument began after he questioned his wife about coming back home late at night. The woman reportedly told him it was none of his business and threw acid on his face during the fight.

Police said Gupta beat his wife after she physically assaulted him.

"This, however, enraged Poonam who picked up a bottle of acid kept in the bathroom and splashed it on his face," an investigating officer told the outlet.

Neighbors told cops that Gupta was an alcoholic and he used to quarrel with his wife frequently.

"They said that he often quarrels with his wife. It seems that his wife took such an extreme step after being perturbed over his drinking habit," the officer added.

In a similar incident a few months back, a woman in India allegedly attacked her abusive husband using acid mixed with chili powder. Mohammed Yaseen suffered severe burns of up to 40% after his wife, identified as Farha Khan, mixed acid used for cleaning toilets with chili powder, heated it, and poured it on him while he was asleep. The woman was reportedly enraged after he slapped her in front of their 4-year-old daughter in an inebriated state. According to neighbors, Yaseen regularly mistreated his wife. Khan was charged with voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means accountable by law.
