Woman Throws Acid Mixed With Chill Powder At Abusive Husband

Furious with her alcoholic husband, a woman from a state in northern India mixed acid used for cleaning toilets with chili powder, heated it, and poured it on her husband while he was asleep, authorities said.

Mohammed Yaseen, a local trader in the city of Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, had slapped the 27-year-old woman in front of their 4-year-old daughter, The Times of India reported.

Yaseen suffered severe burns of up to 40 % after the attack and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

It was reported by neighbors that Mohammed Yaseen regularly mistreated Farha Khan, his wife of seven years. Khan was waiting for her husband to get back home on Sunday night. Yaseen arrived late and began physically abusing his wife while he was in an inebriated condition. He reportedly slapped her when she tried to resist.

After the incident, Khan felt humiliated and hurt and planned the acid attack in order to discipline him and punish him for his actions, police said.

The doctor treating Yaseen said, "The man has blisters in addition to burns on his body. His condition is stable.”

An FIR was filed against Farha after a complaint was made by a relative of Yaseen, as per Mirror Now. The case is registered under a section of the Indian Penal Code that holds anyone voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means accountable by law.

The couple was living a trouble-free life prior to Covid. There were signs of disruption in the house only after Yaseen incurred significant financial losses during the pandemic, TOI reported.

Khan and her daughter have been missing since the incident.

In another incident of crime fuelled by the frustration of dealing with domestic abuse, a woman in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu filed a complaint of domestic abuse against her spouse, only to be attacked by the man. The accused reportedly threw acid on her face as she returned home in the city of Salem. The woman had 70% severe burns and succumbed to her injuries. The couple was married for 20 years and had three children.
