A woman from Huntington, West Virginia, was sentenced to 15 years in prison Monday for stabbing her husband to death during foreplay.

On Nov.4, 2017, Jennifer Lynn Via, 49, and her husband, Thomas Via, were using a 14-inch dagger as part of their sexual foreplay at home when the former accidentally stabbed the latter in the back with the knife. The dagger struck the man’s heart after penetrating seven inches into the back. He died due to internal injuries.

During initial interrogation, Jennifer had given different accounts about how her husband died, including that he slipped and fell onto an old knife. However, she later confessed that she accidentally stabbed him during foreplay.

During the hearing Monday, she said, "My husband and I liked to fight and have sex and then make up, if that's the right way to say that. He wasn't supposed to get hurt, but it did happen.”

Her attorney said the pair started experimenting with violent foreplay after watching “Kung Fu movies.”

“As strange as this is, they watched these Kung Fu movies and it led to, what I would tell a jury, foreplay, which was both of them getting pretty violent with each other while playing with weapons. That’s what led to this,” said attorney Kerry Nessel.

Jennifer, who was charged with first-degree murder a few days post the incident, was sentenced to maximum 15 years in prison, which could be reduced in the next hearing scheduled for Aug. 19.

In a similar incident in June, a court in Germany heard that a man killed his wife during sex by inserting a metal hook inside her. In August 2018, Ralph Jankus, 52, and Christel, 49, began a 48-hour bondage session a few days post their wedding. During the sex session, the man inserted the sharp object into the woman, causing internal bleeding and eventually death.
