Harrowing footage of a woman in India throwing her baby in front of an oncoming tractor to prevent it from moving forward has surfaced online.

The driver of the tractor managed to stop the vehicle in time, averting an imminent tragedy.

The disturbing video was filmed in the city of Gonda in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, DNA India reported.

It opens with the visibly agitated woman throwing her child right in front of the moving wheels of the tractor. After the driver pulls over, the woman lifts the baby back into her arms. The woman then talks to the driver in a threatening manner.

The child can be heard wailing in the entire video, which was filmed by a local resident on his mobile phone and it has since gone viral on social media, according to Times Now News.

The incident took place amid a land dispute between two brothers, the outlet reported, citing local outlet IANS. One of the siblings reportedly tried to plow the other's field and claim it as his. Desperate to keep the tractor from moving forward, one of the men's wives threw her baby in front of the moving wheels.

Akash Tomar, superintendent of police in Gonda, told Times Now News that he has seen the footage and police are currently probing into the incident. He also assured the public that those responsible for the act will be brought to task.

In January last year, a Florida woman was charged with aggravated child abuse and cruelty for throwing her 1-month-old baby girl child toward the infant's father during an argument. The baby hit the ground after her father failed to catch her and suffered serious injuries, including a swollen right eye, a fractured orbital bone, a laceration in the nose and a bleeding brain. The mother, Shana Vega, was also accused of drawing a knife at the child's father during the argument. She allegedly ran off with the child following the incident and was detained only after police received a tip-off. When questioned about the incident, Vega initially claimed she "accidentally dropped" her child.
