A Pittsburgh woman’s notes inside a store bathroom and resort about her alleged kidnapping led to an arrest and her rescue.

On July 8, Scott Township police were called to a Walmart store in Carnegie, Pennsylvania, after the store employees found a note in the bathroom mirror. The note stated the woman's name and that she was being held hostage against her will and had been sexually abused by the accused, 38-year-old Corey Brewer, ABC 7 NY reported.

Police reached out to Brewer by phone and were able to speak with the victim on July 9. Brewer kept the call on speaker even when police asked to speak with the victim privately.

During the call, Brewer told police that the two were on vacation in New York, according to ABC News. The victim said that she was with her boyfriend on the call. On realizing that Brewer was not going to stop listening in on the conversation, the call was ended.

Two days after the Walmart note, police were called to a women's restroom at the Fallingwater museum and landmark in western Pennsylvania as another note was discovered.

The second note stated that the woman had been held hostage since May 1 and asked officers to not give up on helping her. In the note, the woman also wrote, "If I don't make it, tell my family I love them," according to a criminal complaint.

During the investigation, police spotted the victim and the suspect in the resort. The woman was eventually rescued on Tuesday, July 13. Brewer was taken into custody.

According to the complaint, the woman told police that Brewer confiscated her phone and took nude photos of her against her will. She also told police officials that Brewer sexually assaulted her and had punched and strangled her numerous times.

The woman claimed that Brewer had used a knife to cut her foot. She suffered cuts and bruises and had patches of her hair cut out.

The woman said she was not able to escape and that Brewer had threatened her that he would kill her children and her if she tried to leave, ABC News reported.

Neighbors near the suspect’s home were shocked and unsettled after getting to know about the incident. "At least she cried out and got somebody to help," one neighbor said.

Brewer was charged with sexual assault, strangulation and unlawful restraint. He is due in court for a preliminary hearing on July 22.
