‘World Of Dance’

“World of Dance” Season 1 aired its second episode on Tuesday night and received impressive ratings.

Last week, the newest reality TV show on NBC was dubbed the network’s highest-rated summer program to date. On June 6, “World of Dance” received a total of 9.3 million viewers, and its companion, “America’s Got Talent” Season 12, received a total of 12.3 million viewers, according to USA Today.

On its second week, a new set of dancers performed in front of judges Jennifer Lopez, Ne-Yo and Derek Hough in the first round, also known as the qualifiers. First to perform from the junior category was a group of young teens called The Lab. Their hip-hop routine was a hit among the judges and audiences, and they received an average score of 91.3.

In the upper category, “So You Think You Can Dance” winner and pro Fik-Shun tried his luck in “World of Dance.” His emotional routine told a story about how he grew up away from his parents. Lopez and Fik-Shun shared a touching moment when the former gave the latter her comments. Fik-Shun received an average score of 91.

The first group to perform in the team category was the Miami All-Stars. They danced a fusion of salsa and gymnastics to one of Lopez’s songs. Lopez and Hough liked their performance, but Ne-Yo wasn’t really impressed. In the end, they received an average of 81, making them qualified for the next round.

In the first episode of “World of Dance,” it was revealed that dancers who will receive a score of 79 and below will not be able to head to the duels. Luckily for Luka & Jenalyn, the acrobatic dancers received an average of 86.7.

Two other acts in the upper category made it to the next round of competition. Quick Style’s very clean routine earned them an average of 86.7. Soloist Nick Daniels received an average of 87 after he performed a contemporary dance that told his personal story. Daniels lost his father to cancer, and he remembers him whenever he dances.
