  • The FPS Boost can double or quadruple the games’ original frame rates
  • Microsoft added innovations to the look, feel and game experience
  • The feature will be launched initially on Far Cry 4, New Super Lucky’s Tale, Sniper Elite 4, EA Sports UFC 4, and Watch Dogs 2

Thanks to the FPS Boost feature for Xbox Series X and Series S, which provides better frame rates for the backward-compatible titles, playing old games on improved generation consoles is becoming an even better experience.

In its commitment to enable gamers to play their favorite past generations’ titles on the new consoles, Microsoft continues to provide enhancements to the Xbox Series X and Series S, Xbox Wire reported. With increased GPU, CPU and memory, the next generation console provides games with the ability to load faster and Quick Resume.

It does not end there. Microsoft went further ahead and added innovations on the look, feel and game experience. With the FPS Boost, game enthusiasts can enjoy more immersive gameplay through visually smoother games with higher and steadier frame rates, Xbox Wire reported.

FPS Boost is a feature developed by the Microsoft backward compatibility team, and is available for Xbox Series X and Series S. It doubles or in some cases quadruples the game’s specific frame rates, Polygon reported.

Frame rates for each backward compatible Xbox One title will significantly increase. The company will initially launch the feature on Far Cry 4, New Super Lucky’s Tale, Sniper Elite 4, EA Sports UFC 4 and Watch Dogs 2.

Microsoft clarified the games were chosen to highlight how the FPS Boost will enhance the experience, apart from their obvious popularity among gaming enthusiasts. The software giant said it partnered with developers to improve the experience while maintaining the game’s original intent.

Once the FPS Boost goes live, players will find a new option as they open the Manage Game. There they will find the Compatibility Options where they will see the Auto HDR and FPS Boost. However, finding the Auto HDR or FPS Boost options will depend on its availability per specific game.

Pressing the Nexus button will display a small icon indicator that will let players know if the FPS Boost is turned on. Microsoft hinted the FPS Boost will be part of the spring console update, although the software giant did not release any specific launching date so far, Polygon reported.

In the coming months, game enthusiasts can also expect the company to announce a list of games to add up to the five titles that support the FPS Boost.
