The lineup of Xbox Live Games with Gold titles for the month of August includes two games each for the Xbox 360 and the Xbox One.

Subscribers will be able to download survival action role-playing game “Portal Knights” for free on Xbox One throughout the month. From August 16 to September 15, 3D mech-based brawler “Override: Mech City Brawl” will be free to download, notes Video Games Chronicle.

“Portal Knights” usually retails for $19.99 while “Override: Mech City Brawl” sells for $29.99.

Xbox 360 will see racing video game “MX Unleashed” free for Xbox Live Gold members from August 1-15. From August 16 until the end of the month, first-person shooter video game “Red Faction II” becomes available for free.

Both “MX Unleashed” and “Red Faction II” are usually priced at $14.99.

As part of July’s Games with Gold line-up, members can download the official World Rally Championship game “WRC 8 FIA World Rally Championship” and platform gamer “JUJU” until the end of this month. Meanwhile, two-on-two basketball beat ‘em up sports game “Dunk Lords” is free until August 15.

Recently, Microsoft ended the option to purchase a 12-month Xbox Live Gold subscription. This led to speculation that the long-running service might be repackaged or even phased out to coincide with the launch of the Xbox Series X later this year.

During Microsoft’s third financial quarter that ended in March 2020, active Xbox Live users approached 90 million while subscribers of Xbox Game Pass topped 10 million, reports Video Games Chronicle.

Providing an update on the services during Microsoft’s fourth-quarter earnings call this month, CEO Satya Nadella said Xbox Game Pass “is seeing record subscriber growth across both console and PC” and that there are now “nearly 100 million Xbox Live players around the world.”

Microsoft will launch the tentatively named game streaming service “Project xCloud” this September. “Project xCloud” will be available through the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription.

Microsoft executive vice-president for Gaming Phil Spencer has said that his goal for Project xCloud is to have it be playable on every screen that will support streaming. That includes any mobile device, whether it be a mobile phone or tablet.

Priced at $14.99 per month, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate combines Xbox Live Gold membership with Xbox Game Pass for console and PC.
