She was in the passenger seat when a truck smashed into the car she, Lily and Charlie were in, and now, Devon will learn what has become of both Hilary and their baby on the Friday, July 20 episode of “The Young and the Restless.”

After getting into a huge argument over Charlie (Noah Alexander Gerry) and Shauna (Camryn Hamm) being alone in Hilary (Mishael Morgan) and Devon’s (Bryton James) apartment on the CBS soap, Hilary and Lily (Christel Khalil) took off when Shauna ran away because of the drama. Their argument continued as they drove, with Lily screaming at Hilary and not paying attention as she ran a red light—with a truck then slamming into the car as a result.

Young and the Restless
Devon (Bryton James) learns whether or not Hilary (Mishael Morgan) and their baby survived a car crash on the July 20, 2018 episode of “The Young and the Restless.” Howar Wise/ JPI Studios for CBS

Charlie was quickly deemed to be fine, and Lily was also given an all-clear, but Hilary was revealed to be in critical condition. Nate (Brooks Darnell) pulled strings at the hospital that gave him authority to operate on her and try to save both her life and the baby. However, things did not go as well as he’d hoped, and he was forced to tell Lily, Charlie, Shauna, Neil (Kristoff St. John), Mattie (Lexie Stevenson) and Cane (Daniel Goddard) some devastating news.

Now, Devon, who was out of town on business at the time, will also arrive at the hospital and learn what happened. While Hilary will still be in semi-critical condition, she will be alive thanks to Nate’s intervening with surgery. However, the same will not be able to be said for the baby, which was lost due to the trauma of the accident. Devon will be left to mourn, as he realizes he won’t be a father after all and will then have to prepare himself to let Hilary know the news as well.

When he finally gets to see her in the ICU, Hilary will ask him what happened that got her in the hospital in the first place, and he will relay what he knows about the car accident, before telling her that they lost the baby. Both will be left mourning and devastated after she is made aware, and their heartbreak will be massive.

Now, it will be anyone’s guess as to how the news she lost the baby affects Hilary going forward.

“The Young and the Restless” airs weekdays at 12:30 p.m. EDT on CBS.
