KEY POINTS

  • Zoom is very helpful at a time like this
  • Those who frequently use Zoom need to master a few keyboard shortcuts to help them
  • These shortcuts are easy to do but are very helpful

At a time like this when people are ordered to stay at home for their own good, video calling apps such as Zoom are very helpful. Zoom and other apps prove to be useful when meeting with coworkers, friends, and even family members.

While there are problems regarding using Zoom such as “Zoombombing,” it's a fact that the app remains a very useful tool for those who need to keep working from home and staying in touch with others. That said, here are a few keyboard shortcuts that can help users enjoy using the app more, courtesy of iPhoneHacks.

Muting Everyone

Those who are hosting Zoom calls need the ability to mute all participants, especially if most, if not all, are noisy and the speaker can't be heard anymore. Hosts can press Alt/Command + Control + M to mute all callers at the same time.

Show Participants

Zoom call hosts or participants who want to see who has joined in, or simply has the need to know if someone is missing or has dropped out of the call, can see everyone using the Participants panel. This panel shows everyone in the call at the same time, helping hosts and callers monitor them. This panel can be accessed and hid by pressing Alt/Command + U.

Recording a Meeting

Zoom allows users to record whatever happens within a call so that they can go back to it at a later time. This is particularly helpful for those participating in an online class or a group meeting. Zoom users can start recording by pressing Alt/Command + Shift + R. Users can also do cloud recording by pressing Alt/Command + Shift + C.

Inviting People to Join Meetings

Those who need to invite someone to join an ongoing Zoom meeting can do so by pressing Alt/Command + I to bring up the invite window. This will allow users to send an email to their contacts, or to copy an invite URL to be sent to the contact.

These are but some of the shortcuts that users can take advantage of when using Zoom. These are easy to use yet are very helpful especially for those who frequently host Zoom meetings.
