A 12-year-old boy was shot as two vehicles exchanged gunfire in a Homestead neighborhood of Florida.

The boy, who was inside one of the two cars, was kicked out of the vehicle Saturday and found bloodied on the sidewalk before being transported to the hospital, WPLG Local 10 reported.

The rolling shootout took place as the occupants of two vehicles fired at each other. The boy was inside one of the cars and was struck by gunfire. He was kicked out of the vehicle a few blocks away from the shooting and was left on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound to his back.

A woman told NBC 6 that she found the boy bloodied on the sidewalk and called the cops. First responders arrived at the scene and the boy was airlifted to the hospital in critical condition.

Residents living in the area of the shootout said they heard multiple gunshots and later found bullet holes in their homes and cars.

"A white car came up, and the dude was halfway out the car," one neighbor told the outlet. "He was shooting, pointing straight across at the back of the house shooting. And as he was shooting, a little blue car went by and [the white car] went behind the [blue] car."

Another neighbor said she found bullet holes in her truck and her front door. "I heard the shots," she told the outlet, adding, "I came out of the bedroom and that's when I saw the hole in the door."

One woman said she and her husband were inside their house when the bullets struck their home. "It just ricocheted off the wall in here and then landed on my lamp table," the woman told WSVN.

"[My husband] had just closed the door and was walking back toward the kitchen, and that's when the bullets started to fly," she added.

Another resident said he ran inside the house when he heard the sound of gunshots. "I just heard some shots. I heard like 10 of them," he told the outlet. "I got scared. I went to my room."

The identity of the boy was not immediately released. Officials are still investigating the circumstances that led to the shooting.
