The dead body of a 14-year-old girl, who was allegedly gang-raped and killed by two men in India, was found in a gunny bag.

While the crime took place earlier this month, details about the case were revealed by the police Monday. Authorities said one of the accused has been arrested in the case, according to The Indian Express. The police believe the men escaped after killing her on Feb. 12.

The victim's family filed a missing person's reports on Feb. 15 after they could not locate the girl. The police also conducted several search operations but could not find the minor.

The authorities received a call from a shop owner Saturday, complaining of a foul smell inside his store. The shop owner also told the police one of his workers had gone missing. A police team arrived at the scene, and found the missing girl's body inside a gunny bag in the corner.

“We sent a crime team and found that the body was that of the missing girl. We formed special teams to look for the worker and other suspects. Our informers said the accused was in Sannoth village. We sent teams and one of the accused was arrested on Monday. He was trying to flee to Mumbai," Brijendra Yadav, a senior police officer, was quoted as saying by The Indian Express.

During questioning, the accused admitted he and his friend consumed alcohol on the evening of Feb. 12 and hatched a plan to rape the girl who lived nearby. They called the minor on the pretext of giving her work and allegedly raped her, The Times of India reported.

The accused also told the police he and his friend then strangled the girl. When she collapsed, they put her body in a gunny bag and dumped it in the corner.

The police are continuing their investigation into the case and conducting raids to arrest the other accused. A case has been registered for murder, gang rape, kidnapping and under sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POSCO), 2012 Act.
