A 14-year-old girl, who was allegedly raped by a man living near her house in India, killed herself by jumping from the roof of an apartment.

The incident took place in Visakhapatnam district in the state of Andhra Pradesh. The police said Wednesday the girl's father, who works as a watchman at an apartment, woke up late Tuesday night to go to the bathroom, and noticed his daughter was missing, The Hindu reported.

He then went out to search for her, and found her lying in a pool of blood on the other side of the road outside the apartment.

Duvvada police were called to the scene, from where they collected evidence, and registered a case of death under suspicious circumstances. The body of the victim was sent to King George Hospital for an autopsy.

In a press conference Wednesday night, a senior police officer said six young men living in an apartment opposite the watchman’s residence were taken into custody for questioning, TV Telugu reported [Google Translate showed].

The police said they had noticed her last call from her father’s mobile phone had been deleted. A man named Naresh was then arrested and charged for raping the girl, The Hindu reported. He had reportedly lured her into a physical relationship, said the police.

The victim's parents had initially claimed someone may have murdered their daughter. It remains unclear where the victim's mother was at the time of the incident.

The exact cause of death will be revealed after the autopsy result is out.

In another recent incident, a 17-year-old girl, who was allegedly raped by her neighbor, was beaten to death by her family. The incident took place in Jabalpur, a city in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. The girl was found dead when the police reached her home to take her statement regarding the rape case. The family initially claimed the girl died by suicide after she was sexually assaulted. However, the autopsy later revealed she was brutally beaten to death. Authorities launched an investigation and detained the teenager's father for questioning after ruling the death a homicide.
