A violent incident involving two teenage students took place outside a Long Island High School in which one of the teens repeatedly struck another with a knife, causing multiple injuries to his body.

The stabbing was a culmination of a fight that broke out between the two teenagers outside Uniondale High School at around 2:25 p.m. Monday. One of the teens knocked the other off a bike during the school's dismissal, Nassau County Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder said, according to Pix11.

Moments later, the 15-year-old suspect, reportedly attending a different school, pulled out a knife and repeatedly stabbed the Uniondale student, 17, in the neck, back, and stomach, police added. Following the stabbing, the alleged stabber fled the scene on a bike as security guards tried to chase him. He was apprehended by police after a short foot chase while he was on his way home.

The injured student was taken to a nearby hospital in stable condition, NYPost reported. He was out of intensive care, as of Monday evening.

"The response by the police department working with the school district was excellent - exactly as we practiced," Ryder told News12. "Got that individual to the hospital to save his life. Subject is under arrest and nobody else was hurt."

Both the teens were not identified by police. Nassau police were investigating the matter and looking into how the alleged attacker got on the Uniondale campus. Police believed the two teens were known to each other.

Uniondale Schools Superintendent Dr Monique Darrisaw-Akil issued a statement after the stabbing incident, noting the administration "has a zero-tolerance policy for instances of violent or aggressive behavior of any kind."

"The District is cooperating with law enforcement in its investigation," Darrisaw-Akil said. "Please be assured the well-being of our students is our number one priority... We are actively working to review our safety measures and protocols."

Students and parents were also notified about the presence of counselors on campus should they need additional resources to cope with the violent incident.

In a similar incident Monday, a student of Medford High School in Boston, Massachusetts, stabbed another during a bathroom fight. Students and parents who attended the school committee meeting voiced their frustration at the growing rate of violent incidents on campus. Earlier this month, several students staged a walkout due to the same.

Earlier this month, a 17-year-old boy was stabbed by a 15-year-old girl inside Colombia High School in Maryland. Police said a fight broke out between the two students near the football field and the girl stabbed her fellow high schooler.
