Three suspects have been arrested and charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death of a 31-year-old man in Toronto, Canada.

The three suspects were identified as 18-year-old Niki Kirimi, of Toronto, 20-year-old Adriana Desario, of Oakville, and 22-year-old Dawson Aguilera Jimenez, also of Toronto, according to a news release from the Toronto Police Service.

The victim, Daniel Hoffman, was found dead by a family member inside his home in the area of York and Harbour streets in Toronto Wednesday.

Police were called to the residence just after 5 p.m. that day and found Hoffman dead inside his condo.

The unnamed member of the victim's family went to meet Hoffman at his condo that day, Global News reported, citing an unnamed police source.

When they gained access to Hoffman's home, the family member found the victim with obvious signs of trauma and called 911, according to the source.

“He had suffered obvious signs of trauma,” Homicide Detective Sergeant Steve Matthews told the Toronto Sun.

A post-mortem examination has since determined the cause of death to be stabbing, Matthews said.

Hoffman is the 21st homicide victim in Toronto this year.

Hoffman lived alone in his condo and had recently started a new job in sales, Matthews said.

The three suspects appeared in court at Old City Hall on Friday afternoon via video link. Police are now looking into the possibility that the three individuals may be suspects in other criminal investigations under different names.

Police have yet to disclose a possible motive for the killing. There is also no word on whether Hoffman had any sort of relationship with the accused individuals.

“We’re in the process of retrieving numerous amounts of video from the building and surrounding area,” Matthews said. “But that takes time.”

“I’m hopeful we’ll know more in the next few days,” he added.

Authorities encourage anyone with information related to the case to contact police at 416-808-7400 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-8477.

In related news, a 39-year-old man was charged last week with two counts of first-degree murder for two separate “random” murders of two men within about 48 hours of each other in Toronto, Global News reported.

Richard Jonathan Edwin, of Toronto, was arrested Sunday night in connection with the shooting deaths of 21-year-old Kartik Vasudev and 35-year-old Elijah Eleazar Mahepath on April 7 and April 9, respectively.

The first shooting occurred at around 5 p.m. on April 7 at the Glen Road entrance of the Sherbourne Subway Station.

Police said Vasudev, an international student from India studying marketing at Seneca College, received medical attention from an off-duty paramedic for multiple gunshot wounds. The 21-year-old was rushed to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

Toronto Police Chief James Ramer said investigators believe Vasudev was a complete stranger to the suspect.

Two days later, Mahepath was shot near Dundas and George streets while he was walking home. He was rushed to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Investigators said both fatal shootings were “random,” but they were able to make a link between them.

Detective Sergeant Terry Browne from the homicide unit also said security surveillance video played a significant role in the investigation.
