A new year has come again, and that means celebrations, fun and a little bit of booze. This coming weekend, make the celebrations a bit more exciting with some fun drinking games.

New Year's Eve is always a good reason to get together with a bunch of friends and loved ones to ring in the new year. Whether you're holding a small gathering or a slightly bigger party, drinking games are an excellent way to add a little more fun to the mix.

Try the classics with a twist

Those whose friends are into regular game nights can add a boozy twist to their games on New Year's Eve. Play the regular UNO card game, for instance, but add liquor-related rules to the game. Got a Skip card? Then you can choose a player to do a shot. What about a Plus Four? Then everyone has to join in and take a sip of their drink of choice.

If the group's game of choice is Jenga, on the other hand, then they can make the game a bit more interesting by adding boozy labels to each of the pieces. For instance, someone who gets a piece with a "Drink 1" label should take a drink, while getting a "To your right" label means the person to their right side should take one.

Where's the Water?

This is a rather interesting game that might require some investigation skills. In this game, the players' shot glasses will be filled with water except for one that will be filled with tequila instead. Everyone takes the "shot" all at the same time and they'll have to guess the player who got the actual tequila.

This could be a good game for those who like games that require a bit of sleuthing or if they're the ones who got the tequila, acting skills.

Boozy Trivia Night

Everyone loves a good trivia night, and New Year's Eve could be a fun night to make it more interesting by watching the losing team down a drink. To make it appropriate for the season, why not host a quiz on some New Year's Eve facts?

Don't know in which countries it's said to be lucky to find the hidden almond inside a rice pudding on New Year's Eve? Have another drink.

Extra Twisty Twister

Twister is already a bit of a difficult game if you're not all that flexible, but add a little booze and it may just make for more laughter and mayhem. For this boozy version, the person who ends up slipping off the mat simply has to take a drink.

As the evening goes on, the game may just end up a little more fun, and perhaps more hilarious.

Name Chain

For this game, people simply have to arrange themselves in a circle and give the name of an animal or whatever category the group has chosen. Except, the next player has to give a name that starts with the last letter of the name given by the previous player.

For instance, if the category is animals and the last player said "narwhal," the next player has to say the name of an animal that starts with an L. If they can't in the given amount of time, then they have to take the penalty drink.

No matter what game is chosen for the party, the idea is simply to have a bit of fun to celebrate the coming of the new year. But as always, remember to drink responsibly during the holidays.

As the National Institutes of Health (NIH) noted, "do not underestimate the effects of alcohol," adding that there is "no way to sober up faster."

It's best to plan ahead of the celebrations. For instance, offer both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks and make arrangements to ensure that guests can get home safely. Someone who has had alcohol should not get behind the wheel.
