A 73-year-old Texas man was critically injured after being viciously attacked by two pit bulls. The attack occurred in front of a home in El Paso, while he was cleaning a yard.

"I was there when they attacked him. He’s been cleaning this lady’s yard for at least 10 years once a month," Veronica Coy, a nearby resident said to KFOX.

"These dogs came out of nowhere... they went straight to him and they just started attacking him, full-blown attacking him," Coy said to KVIA.

The elderly victim sustained multiple bite injuries to his face, neck and arms. He also had other puncture wounds on his body.

"When I was telling him that help was coming there was no face, I couldn't even distinguish his face," Coy said to the outlet. "This man was lifeless, his body was on the ground, he couldn't talk, he couldn't yell for help."

The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries and severe trauma, according to the first responders. The man is now in stable condition.

The two dogs involved in the attack, a male and a female pit bull had previously gone missing from the backyard of a home three blocks away from the scene of the attack.

Coy revealed the owner arrived at the scene after the attack and said he had been searching for the dogs for about 20 minutes, KFOX reported. The owner was able to get the dogs off the victim. He waited for Animal Services and El Paso police to arrive at the scene.

Animal Services staff took the two dogs into their custody. Cops are still investigating the incident.

In a similar incident, a 69-year-old grandmother was killed by a pit bull after she fell from a chair while holding her 3-year-old granddaughter. The granddaughter started crying after the fall, alerting the dog. It rushed into the room and bit the woman around her neck while she was lying on the floor. Animal control used a tranquilizer to sedate the pit bull after it continued to show aggression.
