An unidentified man is in the subject of a police investigation after he was being caught punching an 88-year-old woman on surveillance footage.

The incident took place in Southwest Houston, Texas, with the female victim, Mary Rutkowsky, being seen knocked to the ground outside of an H-E-B supermarket on March 8. Houston police recently released video footage in hopes of finding the culprit.

The senior citizen spoke about the attack to Click2Houston and said, "When they loaded me into the ambulance...I didn't remember anything until the next day. He's ruined the rest of my life."

"I want to know why," said Rutkowsky. "Why he would pick me, of all people? I can't understand why anybody would hurt another person, especially an elderly person."

Rutkowsky's daughter, Annette Stewart, was present when the attack happened and told reporters about her mother. "She just kept saying, 'He hit me! He hit me!' and I said, 'Who?'" Stewart recalled.

The victim then stated that the grocery store worker, who was pushing their groceries out, pointed to a man who they said he was the one who hit her, reports ABC 13.

Since the incident, Rutkowsky said she has been left with a ringing sound in her head.

“I would say a good four or five weeks afterward, I was getting over all the ringing and everything in my head. That's about the only thing that I can say," Rutkowsky said.
