ABC’s “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” Season 7 revealed that the mission to save the future starts with saving the enemy. They’ll have to save Hydra first, but that’ll be difficult for the agents to accept in Wednesday’s episode.

At the end of last week’s season premiere, the group realized that Freddie is in fact Wilfred Malick (Darren Barnet), future father of Gideon Malick, one of the most high-ranking S.H.I.E.L.D. officials who turns out to be a double agent for Hydra.

“With the identity of the timeline-unraveling ‘thread’ revealed, the team’s mission to protect him at all costs leads each agent to question their own values,” ABC’s synopsis for Season 7, episode 2 teases. “Is preserving the future of the world as they know it worth the destruction they could prevent?”

The Malick family will be responsible for thousands of deaths, so why not take them out now? Remember, the agents are in 1931 because the Chronicoms have decided that they can destroy S.H.I.E.L.D. by changing the course of events that start there. If Freddie dies, there’s no Hydra and that theoretically means there’s no reason to create S.H.I.E.L.D. Or worse, an even more evil threat will rise up in Hydra’s place.

The trailer for episode 2 shows Daisy (Chloe Bennet) ordering an unsure Deke (Jeff Ward) to “take the shot.” Will Deke disrupt the timeline? Watch the promo video below:

The episode will also feature Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge) and Yo-Yo (Natalia Cordova) leaving the Zephyr to get in on the action. The women get their 1931 costumes on, as seen in episodic photos below, to head to Koenig’s (Patton Oswalt) speakeasy. They’ll need his help.

Nora Zehetner also returns in this episode as a Hydra agent. Her involvement will help the team figure out what exactly Freddie is up to.

Not mentioned anywhere is May (Ming-Na Wen), who woke up at the end of the last episode. While the team saved her from dying after she was stabbed, her return isn’t exactly smooth. Something’s not quite right with the cavalry, and her reaction to Coulson’s (Clark Gregg) life model decoy isn’t what fans might expect.

The hour is titled “Know Your Onions,” which--if you're not up to date on the 1930s slang--means that someone is very smart. That phrase can be applied to a few people on the team.

“Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” Season 7, episode 2 airs Wednesday, June 3 at 10 p.m. EDT after the Wonderful World of Disney programming block, which will broadcast the Pixar film “Up.”
