Marvel fans know that “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” connects to the films more than any other TV show, especially as they time travel to secure S.H.I.E.L.D.’s future in the final episodes. However, that doesn’t mean fans should expect the big name cameo they’ve been hoping for in Season 7.

Actress Hayley Atwell denied rumors that she’d reprise her role as Agent Peggy Carter, S.H.I.E.L.D. founder, on the show. “No,” she wrote along with a peace sign emoji when a fan shared their hope for her return on Instagram.

Previously, Atwell appeared as Peggy on “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” Season 2 in flashbacks just before “Agent Carter” was about to premiere on ABC. It seems that will be her only appearance on the TV show.

Though she has often said she’d love to return to Peggy’s story in another era, Atwell seemed pleased with Peggy’s last appearance in “Avengers: Endgame” where she and Steve Rogers/Captain America (Chris Evans) got their last dance together.

“I thought it was a fitting end to a story that has affected so many people. I thought it was very endearing, innocent and wholesome in the way that it keeps those characters in their time,” she told The Hollywood Reporter in August. “I thought it was quite beautiful and very tasteful of Marvel to finish this 10-year story in a very simple storyline about two human beings — and one of them doesn’t even have any superpowers. So, I thought the tone of it, to end there, after some extraordinary things of trauma, action, effects and powers… to just have two people slow-dancing was very beautiful.”

However, Atwell isn’t done with Marvel yet. She’ll voice a character in their animated series “What If,” which will show an alternate universe where Peggy gets to be Captain America. The show will debut on Disney+ next year.

While Atwell will not appear, her “Agent Carter” co-star Enver Gjokaj is reprising his role as Agent Daniel Sousa on “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” Season 7. In last week’s episode, he believed Hydra was infiltrating S.H.I.E.L.D. and was determined to stop it. The trailer for this week’s episode, titled “Out of the Past,” reveals that Sousa will be “the first fallen agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.”

“Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” airs Wednesdays at 10 p.m. EDT on ABC.
