KEY POINTS

  •  A man in Alabama was shot in the face by his neighbor during a gunfight
  • The argument had been over urinating outside
  • The victim of the gunshot did not sustain serious injuries but was flown to a hospital in Pensacola

A man in Alabama confronted a neighbor urinating in public and was shot in the face after the altercation escalated.

Their fight started when John Williams, 38 found his neighbor urinating in the street near Grand Bay on Sunday morning.

According to Mobile County Sheriff, Captain Paul Burch, the upset neighbor got a gun from his vehicle and started firing at Williams.

The neighbor retaliated by getting his weapon and returning fire. Capt. Burch told media outlets the one who was mad about the guy peeing is the guy who fired the first shots, and he ended up getting shot.

Though Williams was shot in the face, the injuries sustained were not life-threatening, and he was flown to a hospital in Pensacola.

No charges have been filed, but everything has since been turned over to the District Attorney to see if self-defense was viable.

After all, the man who returned fire and shot his neighbor was responding to the escalation.

Burch claimed there were no regulations about urinating in public because they were not in the city. It was more about common decency than something serious.

Williams was able enough to walk himself to the helicopter, though, according to Burch.

William’s girlfriend, Toccara Finkley, told the media that it escalated so fast. All she knows is the guy started shooting, and her boyfriend was hit.

Apparently, all Williams did was ask him to leave as he was urinating on the lawn. The offender did not comply.

Finkley said the neighbor’s girlfriend was also on the scene and made the tensions higher. She said the girl came out and escalated the entire situation, and the guy proceeded to leave, then he allegedly started shooting back at her boyfriend.

There are different accounts of the way things happened because the authorities maintain that Williams was the original aggressor while the girlfriend claims the urinator was the one who shot first.

In any case, Sheriff Burch stated the case could be considered as self-defense in favor of the urinator, so charges may never be filed.

Investigations are still ongoing, though, to determine the cause of the incident and the flow of events.

During recent days, there have been several shooting incidences in the area. These include a five-year-old boy who accidentally shot himself in the head.

In another case, a man who committed a hit and run on a vehicle, fatally shot his victim when he was later followed and confronted.
