Television host Alex Trebek, 78, had a very candid interview on Wednesday on "Good Morning America" as he talked publicly for the first time about his battle with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. Trebek also touched on "Jeopardy" star James Holzhauer, who has won nearly two-million dollars in less than three weeks.

"My oncologist tells me I'm doing well, even though I don't always feel it," Trebek told host Robin Roberts.

He continued, "I've had kidney stones, I've had ruptured disks, so I'm used to dealing with pain, but what I'm not used to dealing with is the surges that come on suddenly of deep, deep sadness, and it brings tears to my eyes."

Trebek was very positive though during his interview, joking with Roberts that he is a "bit of a wuss" when it comes to his chemotherapy and adding that he feels weak "all the time."

"The numbers that indicate the cancer... those are coming down," he shared.

And though eyes are glued to see how Holzhauer continues to do on "Jeopardy," the episodes were taped months ago, but Trebek still likes to rewatch them. He told Roberts, "We wrapped up the season and now I have the summer months to recuperate and get strong again. I just have to get strong because, as you know, the chemo takes it out of you. I mean, I feel so weak all the time and that's not a good place to be."

When speaking about his chemotherapy and having a positive attitude, he said, "I go in, I sit down, I joke with the nurses and I'm there for an hour-and-a-half while they inject all this stuff into me and then I go home and have a good day."

Trebek continued, "Then the next day, for no reason that I can fathom, it turns south on me - but that's okay. You have to deal with it. What am I gonna do? It's something I'm afflicted with, we are dealing with it chemically and spiritually, and those are positives."

New episodes of "Jeopardy" starring Trebek will air in September.
