  • Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-NY, plans to go live on Twitch for a game of "Among Us" this week
  • Streamers like Pokimane and HasanAbi have expressed interest in playing with AOC
  • Ocasio-Cortez is known for being a formidable player of "League of Legends"

"Among Us," the online multiplayer social deduction game, has apparently piqued the interest of Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-NY.

On Twitter, Ocasio-Cortez announced that she was looking for teammates to play a game of "Among Us" with in order to "get out the vote."

"I’ve never played but it looks like a lot of fun," she wrote.

Ocasio-Cortez also shared a link to a Twitch page for AOC in a follow-up tweet, along with the note, "Getting set up!"

Streamers like Pokimane and HasanAbi have already taken note, with the former tweeting, “it’d be an honor.”

Ocasio-Cortez has also drawn the interest of personalities like James Charles, DrLupo, Neekolul, Felicia Day and Greg Miller, among many others.

Miller recently streamed visiting Biden Island on “Animal Crossing: New Horizons,” the locale within the game where the Democratic presidential nominee is urging people to vote.

Recent presidential candidates like Bernie Sanders and Andrew Yang also previously used Twitch in an attempt to reach younger voters.

Although “Among Us” was released in 2018, it did not become viral until recently amid the global pandemic. Essentially a party game where players must work together to find a saboteur, a reported sequel for “Among Us” was set aside to make the current game better.

When content creators like the Pokimane, CallMeCarson, and Sodapoppin began playing “Among Us” on Twitch, it exposed the game developed and published by InnerSloth to a larger audience, hence well-known personalities taking notice.

As “Animal Crossing: New Horizons” and “Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout” have shown, video games that allow socialization in a time when social distancing discourages it in the real world are becoming increasingly popular.

Ocasio-Cortez is known for being a formidable player of “League of Legends” so perhaps tapping into the “Among Us” online community is not such a stretch for her. In her most recent tweet, she did not reveal who she will be playing with, but she confirmed that she plans to go live on Twitch Tuesday night.
