She delighted fans when she gave her first public interview in years earlier this month, and further so when she expressed a desire to return to acting. However, those close to Amanda Bynes are reportedly worried that returning to the spotlight could cause the actress to once again “spiral” out of control.

According to OK! Magazine, the actress, 31, has some of those close to her very worried about her ambition to reboot her showbiz career, because while she is much better than she was at her lowest points the last few years, they think that she’s still not able to handle the crush of the spotlight.

“Amanda’s still very fragile,” a source told the magazine. “She’s desperate to get back into showbiz, but she doesn’t even leave the house without her life coach at this point.”

In fact, the magazine noted that despite seeming to be much more alert and able to function during her interview, she still has hard days normally. The magazine noted that she didn’t look her best during a recent coffee outing, and she often seemed dazed whenever she went to classes at the Fashion Institute for Design & Merchandising, as well as when she goes to help out a local homeless shelter.

The source says her friends and loved ones feel afraid that a return to the spotlight could trigger another spiral, and they fear what would happen if that were the case.

“It’s great that she's a functioning member of society again,” the source said. “But her friends fear that the return to the spotlight she so craves could trigger another spiral. She just doesn’t seem ready to handle a ton of public attention yet.”

The source also cautioned that Bynes needs to expect that casting directors may not jump on putting her in their projects just yet either, after the years of negative press that have surrounded her during her public battle with both drugs and mental illness. They also say that her life coach will need to be with her as she tries to get back into the spotlight.

“Despite her big announcement, it’s unlikely she’ll end up getting cast right away,” the source said. “Amanda really needs to prove she’s capable of being back on screen. And Joy will have to be there every step of the way.”

Bynes, who was once a top comedic actress in Hollywood, suffered greatly over the years as she battled her issues. Her issues began in 2012, when she was arrested for a DUI after side-swiping a police car in Hollywood. She faced charges for two other hit and run incidents, as well as driving without a license as well. She was also arrested in 2013 at her home in New York for criminal possession of marijuana, attempted tampering with evidence and reckless endangerment for allegedly throwing a bong out the window of her apartment. A few months later, she was detained in Thousand Oaks, California, after she allegedly started a small fire in the driveway of a neighbor’s home. She was then placed on a mental-health evaluation hold.

She was arrested for a second DUI in September 2014 and placed on another temporary psychiatric hold after she made accusations on Twitter that her father sexually abused her as a child, and placed a microchip in her brain.
