Amanda Bynes is back on the straight and narrow. The once troubled child star has big plans for her future that don’t involve wigs or Twitter meltdowns.

Bynes, 31, gave her first interview in years which was previewed on “Good Morning America.” During the clip she revealed that she’s been sober for three years and has her eyes set on a comeback. Right now she’s focused on her new hobbies, which include hiking, spinning and helping the homeless, but she’d eventually like to return to the spotlight.

“I do miss acting and I actually have something surprising to tell you, I’m going to start acting again,” she said.

She continues, “I want to do TV, maybe a few guest spots on some shows that I’m a fan of and maybe another TV show that I’m the star of.”

That’s not all she’s got planned. The former Nickelodeon actress said she’s enrolled at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising, which she’s “really loving.” Since starting school she’s learned to sew and make patterns and hopes to use that to further her career some day.

“I make patterns and I want to start a clothing line in the future,” she told Hollyscoop’s Diana Madison during the sit down.

Bynes hasn’t been heard from much since 2016 after encountering a series of legal and mental health related issues. In August 2016 she returned to her Twitter account, which had largely been dormant, to update fans on her life. She revealed that she had been “really busy” with school. Bynes said midterms had just concluded at the time, revealing that she was “loving school” and doing “excellent.”

That same month rumors began swirling that Bynes had been active on the social media site, but had assumed an alias. It was reported that she was tweeting under the name Ashley Banks using the handle @PersianLa27. Banks denied that the account was run by Bynes in a statement to the International Business Times, asking that publications “stop referring to me as Amanda.”

“My name is Ashley! Ashley Banks! Please stop referring to me as Amanda, because my name is not Amanda,” she wrote. “It is Ashley! Amanda is a very bad person and an actress. I am a fashion designer! Please stop misinterpreting my tweets for something that they are not! Please and many thanks! XoxoAB”

The account featured several bizarre tweets thought to have been penned by Bynes. In one, @PersianLa27 shared a photo obviously of Bynes, claiming that she was “taking mental notes of what cosmetic procedures that I need done next.”

In August 2014, Bynes was placed on a 5150 involuntary psychiatric hold. She was being held at UCLA Medical Center where, according to TMZ, doctors were considering extending her stay. Those treating her were thought to be considering filing for conservatorship, which would allow them to make decisions for her as she was not of sound mind at the time.

Her mother, Lyn, previously had conservatorship over her, though a medical LPS Hold would have been different. Physicians would have been allowed to administer medication to Bynes as necessary without her consent. Judges often grant such holds in cases involving patients who are “gravely disabled as a result of a mental disorder or impairment by chronic alcoholism,” TMZ reported.

The actress was placed on a psychiatric hold amid a series of strange happenings. She was arrested for DUI, claimed she was engaged to a 19-year-old who denied having seen her in several months, accused her father of sexually abusing her and tweeted that she worried she had a microchip in her brain. None of her bizarre claims were proven true.
