The puzzling saga of Amanda Bynes continues to get even stranger. The 27-year-old actress, who announced her retirement from acting in 2010, is now claiming that she has an impostor.

According to E! Online, Bynes took to her Twitter account on Tuesday night to address some recent photographs that had been published, purporting to be of her. Photographers snapped pictures of a redheaded woman walking on the streets of New York City, who “appeared to be the troubled starlet.” The woman in the photos sported similar long, white acrylic nails, cheek piercings in the same location as Bynes’ and sunglasses nearly identical to ones Bynes has been seen wearing.

But in spite of the uncanny similarities, the former Maxim cover girl told Twitter followers that the woman in the images was not her. "My hair is blonde I've never been a redhead! Somebody keeps posing as me! Check my photos on twitter for up to date pictures!" she wrote, in a tweet that has since been deleted.

In a second tweet, Bynes added, "Fake or real microdermals same glasses! I don't own those clothes and I'm blonde! Haha! [sic]."

In addition to her recent legal troubles, Bynes has received a lot of media attention for her bizarre behavior, including odd messages she has posted to Twitter. Two weeks ago the former “What I Like About You” actress garnered some of her strangest headlines yet, when she announced on Twitter that she wanted the Canadian rapper Drake to “murder my vagina.” She had previously tweeted that he was a “hot fellow.”

An alleged friend of Bynes' acknowledged concern for the star’s well-being, telling Radar Online that the actress is “blissfully unaware” of her new media image.

"Amanda has absolutely no idea about the reputation she's getting for all of her weird behavior," the source told the gossip site. "In fact, when she got her DUI and those hit-and-run allegations, all she talked about was the publicity she was finally getting!"

In October, Bynes’ former television co-star Jennie Garth said that she was worried about Bynes but had been ignored by the starlet.

"I tried reaching out to her and I haven't been able to reach her," Garth told Us Weekly. "My heart feels for whatever she is going through and I love her dearly."
