Fans of “Amazing Race” were shocked when they learned the show had been pulled from its planned May 20 premiere date and was once again floating with no home on the schedule at CBS. Now, the network’s announcement of renewed programs for the new year could be shedding some light on when Season 32 of the series will potentially have a home.

CBS previously announced that they had pulled “Amazing Race” to make room for some new programming, but didn’t reveal when the series would return to television screens, simply stating it would air “later this year.” However, following the network announcing its renewals of 23 shows, which included a previously renewed “TAR,” the network could be revealing that it will air in the Fall for the first time in a few years.

The announcement regarded the 2020-2021 season, which begins with fall programming, which could mean that the show has been shelved until that season. For it to still air in 2020, then it would be a fall series. However, the renewal likely also referred to the planned 33rd season of the show, which did see production cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic. If that renewal is what is being referred to, then it could mean that the season would air in the winter or spring of 2021.

However, that does mean fans still won’t know when Season 32 will air. CBS didn’t give a reason for pulling the show, which has led to different speculation, including some that suggested it would air over the summer alongside Phil Keoghan’s new show. If that was the case, and production on TAR 33 picked up again, then it would give CBS time to find a place for it on the 2020-2021 schedule.

If Season 32 aired in the Fall though, it’s unclear if it would still have a home on Wednesday nights, where it has found success. The slot is usually reserved for the network’s competition reality shows, including “Survivor” and “Big Brother.” “Survivor” was also renewed for a new season, and while production has not started up on it yet if it is given a chance to film, it will likely claim its home back on the network in the fall.

Based on the other shows that have been officially renewed, unless CBS places new shows in a spot that would currently be empty, “Amazing Race” would only fit on Wednesdays at 9 p.m. (following “Survivor”) or airing on a Saturday or Sunday. The show initially had its start on Sunday nights and was featured there for a long time, but was moved after it was continuously delayed due to sports programming that ran long.

CBS has not revealed any of its plans for the show.
