After months of waiting “American Horror Story: Cult,” episode 1 finally premiered Tuesday. While several aspects of the storyline were already expected like the mixed reactions to Donald Trump’s presidential victory, the FX series served up several surprises and shocking scenes.

For those of you who may have missed “Election Night,” check out these four things you should know about the first episode of “AHS” Season 7.

1. Winter is a bad influence and Kai may be the reason why

On “American Horror Story: Cult,” episode 1, viewers first meet Kai (Evan Peters) as he is celebrating Donald Trump’s victory in the 2016 presidential election believing “the revolution has begun.” Meanwhile, his sister Winter (Billie Lourd), who has a history of self-harming, is devastated by Hillary Clinton’s loss but seems to find comfort in her brother despite their opposing views.

Winter is later hired by married couple Ally (Sarah Paulson) and Ivy (Alison Pill) Mayfair-Richards to watch their son, Oz (Cooper Dodson). During her alone time with the child, Winter convinces him to look at murders and dead bodies online.

When left alone, Oz sees several clowns arrive at his neighbor’s home. Although he tells Winter about the clowns, she doesn’t believe him and instead drags Oz across the street. Outside of the neighbor’s house, she helps him look into the window and he witnesses their murders. After Oz tells his moms this story, Winter tells the couple that their son has a wild imagination and they actually didn’t go outside until they saw the police arrive. She then hands them a Twisty the Clown (John Carroll Lynch) comic book, which results in Ivy admitting that Oz suffers from night terrors and probably dreamed he witnessed the murder. Did Oz imagine he witnessed the crime or could Winter be covering up for someone?

2. A rift in a romance

Ally’s phobias are causing trouble in her marriage. Ally, who owns a restaurant with Ivy, previously agreed to be the face of the establishment while Ivy would be in the back handling the food, however, Ally has not kept her promise because she has let her phobias get the best of her. Due to her anxiety following the election, she has not shown up to the restaurant in over a month leaving Ivy feeling abandoned. Ivy also partially blames Ally for Clinton’s loss because she didn’t vote.

Although showrunner Ryan Murphy promised that Kai and Ally’s relationship will be “a love story for the ages,” it doesn’t seem like the young man makes a good first impression on his future love. Ally and Kai’s first encounter consists of him spilling his latte on her and Ivy and calling her out of her name.

3. Bullets will not take Twisty the Clown down

Twisty the Clown (John Carroll Lynch) seems to be a reoccurring presence on “American Horror Story” Season 7. While his image alone seems to trigger fear for some, the real Twisty is busy going on a murderous rampage. On the series, the killer clown is seen sneaking up on a young couple as the guy is explaining the clown’s violent history to his lady friend. Upon realizing that they are in the actual presence of the real Twisty, the guy takes out his gun and shoots the clown several times. However, the bullets have no effect and Twisty slits his throat and eventually murders the female.

4. Ally’s phobias are intense

Viewers first get a glimpse at Ally’s Coulrophobia, a specific fear of clowns, when her son hands over his Twisty the Clown comic book and Ivy has to come rushing in to calm her down. Ally later heads to the grocery store where she seems to imagine she is attacked by clowns. One clown can be seen chasing her with a knife while others are seeing engaging in intercourse while in the middle of the produce aisle. When she finally escapes, Ally crashes her car after seeing a clown in her back seat. Ivy reports the incident but later tells Ally that the police didn’t see any of things she claimed happened on the security footage.

Later on, while attempting to create the prix fixe menu for their restaurant, viewers witness Ally’s hemophobia, an extreme and irrational fear of blood, and trypophobia, an extreme fear of irregular patterns or clusters of small holes or bumps. Ivy serves Ally a spinach souffle with truffle oil but all Ally can see is blood oozing out of the small holes in the dish. When she turns away from her meal, she sees a clown fondling himself in the corner and begins to scream.

It doesn’t help that this has all happened after Ally admits she has not been taking the medicine that her doctor prescribed to help her anxiety. Before episode 1, “Election Night,” ends, Ally rolls over in bed to find that Ivy is not lying next to her, instead it is the clown who chased her with a knife in the grocery story. While she screams in horror the scene cuts to black leaving her fate unknown.

“American Horror Story: Cult” airs Tuesdays at 10 p.m. EDT on FX.
