Angelina Jolie has joined the throng of celebrities donating to different charities and organizations that support the protests following the death of George Floyd. The “Maleficent” star pledged a significant amount to the NAACP Legal Defense Fund as a sign of solidarity in the organization’s fight against social injustice and racism.

Ahead of her 45th birthday, the Oscar winner donated $200,000 for the cause in a bid to "fight for racial equality, social justice, and their call for urgent legislative reform," People reported.

"Rights don’t belong to any one group to give to another. Discrimination and impunity cannot be tolerated, explained away or justified. I hope we can come together as Americans to address the deep structural wrongs in our society," Jolie said.

According to an Entertainment Tonight source, Jolie spent her birthday, which was on Thursday (June 4), with her six children -- Maddox, Shiloh, Knox, Vivienne, Pax and Zahara -- while on quarantine. It has reportedly been a tradition for the kids to make something special for their mom on her special day.

Despite the celebration, the insider said Jolie’s heart remains with Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery and Breonna Taylor’s families. These individuals were unarmed when they were senselessly killed.

Floyd’s murder sparked protests across the country, with celebrities like Brad Pitt also taking to the streets to denounce his killing in the hands of police. Just like Jolie, some stars donated to several causes that will help the protesters.

Meanwhile, Jolie has been actively helping out those in need during the coronavirus pandemic. The “Salt” star has been vocal when it comes to the lack of food for children, an issue which was aggravated by the shutdown of schools due to COVID-19.

In April, Jolie joined a virtual meeting organized by the organization No Kid Hungry, which aims to feed kids during this crisis. The group is close to her heart, and she has donated $1 million to the charity in the past.

“I knew that there were problems in America, that there was poverty, but I could not believe when I realized how many school children in America were dependent on a meal to not go hungry," Jolie said.
