Angelina Jolie has one important lesson to share with her daughters.

The "Maleficent" actress is an active advocate for women's and children's rights. In fact, Jolie has been working with refugees and co-founded the Preventing Sexual Violence in Conflict Initiative in June 2012. The actress admitted that she wants her kids to follow in her footsteps, especially her daughters.

"I tell my daughters, 'What sets you apart is what you are willing to do for others. Anyone can put on a dress and makeup. It's your mind that will define you,'" Jolie said during an interview with Elle magazine (via Entertainment Tonight). "Find out who you are, what you think, and what you stand for. And fight for others to have those same freedoms. A life of service is worth living."

Jolie believes that it's important for everyone to have a voice and use it. She recalled how women fought to be where they are today and urged her children to continue the fight for women. She believes that education and solidarity with other women around the world are important because women's rights are not taken seriously in some places.

"When it comes down to it, we still treat violence against women as a lesser crime," Jolie lamented. "In some countries, sexual violence is less of a taboo discussion. It's something more people expect their leaders to act on."

Jolie added that over 150 countries have already signed a commitment to end impunity for war-zone rape. At the moment, they are working with NATO to train, protect and get more women in the military. However, there are still a lot of things that need to be done.

In related news, Jolie has been spotted out and about with her children. She recently attended the National Board of Review Awards Gala in New York City with daughters Shiloh and Zahara Jolie-Pitt. Jolie and her kids also enjoyed a family getaway to Lake Tahoe last December where Shiloh broke her collarbone.

According to an insider, Jolie is still single after her split from Brad Pitt, and the "Changeling" star will remain that way for a long time because she has no plans to date and wants to focus on her six children.

"She isn't dating anyone and won't be for a very long time. She is focused on her children and their needs," the insider told People.
