Angelina Jolie’s character, Maleficent, makes a return to the big screen in “Maleficent: Mistress of Evil.” Before its release on October 18, the movie's costume designer revealed some of Jolie's favorite costumes from the movie.

Fans of the series will see Jolie return to portray the villain in a re-telling of the classic tale of “Sleeping Beauty's” Aurora, played by Elle Fanning.

This Maleficent differs from the classic fairy tale where the mystical fairy Maleficent starts off as a pure spirit. Her betrayal brings her down a path that leads to her gradual darkening. The pinnacle of her dark phase is when she curses the then-newborn Aurora to a “sleep-like death.” Over time, Aurora grows to be pure and kind-hearted, affecting even Maleficent, returning the villain to her old self.

The BAFTA-nominated costume designer Ellen Mirojnick has now shared how the tone of the movie changes in chapter two. She said the evolution of the characters would be visible, and that the new film would be bolder, fuller, more courageous and vibrant, Now To Love NZ noted.

She also said that working with Angelina was a great experience and that she had talked with her about the scenes in the film, as well as the formation of the titular character’s look. The costume designer said that the actress was a very active participant in the design process, and also shared her new costume for her character.

This dedication to the design and look of the series can be seen in the newly-released poster. The poster shows the horned fairy along with two other male counterparts to the side, who seem to be from her same species. Aurora, the prince, and the prince’s mother (played by Michelle Pfeiffer) is seen as well.

Pfeiffer and Jolie both loved their costumes, but the latter’s reason for loving hers was because it made her feel “warrior-like.”

"In her battle costume she said she felt courageous and warrior-like and it brought her to the point where there was no disconnect [between herself and the character]," Mirojnick shared.

Mirojnick also shared that Pfeiffer also loved “everything” about the costumes she wore.

She explained that a big part of the job was to help Jolie, Pfeiffer, and the rest of the cast into character. If it works out great, she says, then the movie turns out better because of it.
