KEY POINTS

  • Aside from cloud saves, fireworks, a new camera, and dreaming, tripping was quietly added to "Animal Crossing: New Horizons"
  • This could be an indicator that a full-blown luck system will be added to the game sometime in the future
  • Prior "Animal Crossing" games featured Katrina, a black panther who could tell your fortune for a price and indicate what luck you'd have

Even as Summer Update Wave Two introduced dreaming, fireworks, cloud saves, and a new camera to “Animal Crossing: New Horizons,” another interesting yet quiet addition was made, namely tripping.

Polygon points out that for anyone who downloaded Wave Two, they may have found that every so often, their villager would slip and fall to the ground.

Another new item introduced as a balloon will also float away if you happen to be holding it.

Some players have come to realize that if you hit a rock and get a gold nugget, you will now be inspired to craft a new DIY, the King Tut mask. Although it looks great, wearing the King Tut mask actually means you will likely trip more often than you otherwise would.

In the past, “Animal Crossing” once had a luck system that affected all sorts of things. A good luck day could mean getting more money from rocks, easier means to befriend villagers, or even a better time avoiding bees since they would move slower.

On bad luck days, however, the exact opposite could happen aa fewer resources can be found, there’s greater difficulty in raising friendship levels, the money rock becomes stingier and worse, you can trip and fall on your face.

That’s the bad effect of wearing the King Tut mask, your luck goes down and you’ll trip all over the place. Historically, it has long been rumored that the real mask of Tutankhamun was cursed and when his tomb was found, most of those involved in the excavation died mysteriously.

Until now, tripping was not present in “Animal Crossing: New Horizons” and some fans are now speculating that its addition means a luck system, as well as a new character, is on the way. Prior “Animal Crossing” games included Katrina, a black panther who could tell your fortune for a price.

Polygon notes that these fortunes were an indicator that you were about to have good luck days or bad luck days, including times when you’d trip all the time. She could even foretell days when your villagers would try and avoid you.

Thus, with the introduction of tripping to “Animal Crossing: New Horizons,” future updates might get a complete luck system among other things.
