Anna Wintour knows a good work ethic when she sees one. That’s why the Vogue editor-in-chief is calling out the rumors about Meghan Markle.

“I read somewhere that there were members of the royal household that were confused and upset that she woke up so early, at 5 a.m.,” Wintour said in a Q&A video Vogue released Tuesday. “She’s a normal California girl who gets up early and does yoga and meditates.”

Wintour was responding to someone who asked for her opinion on the Duchess of Sussex, and the fashion expert didn’t stop there. “[She] also sent a lot of text messages. I mean, what did they expect? That she was going to send messages via pigeon? So I think she’s amazing.”

Meghan has been plagued by rumors that the royal staff aren’t used to someone as fast-moving and ambitious as she is. She supposedly starts emailing and texting her ideas as early as 5 a.m., which employees aren’t thrilled about. Wintour, who is also rumored to be a boss with high expectations (supposedly even inspiring “The Devil Wears Prada”), doesn’t take issue with the Duchess’ reported behavior.

The Met Gala chair also went on to address Meghan’s wedding dress. The former actress wore a Givenchy dress designed by Clare Waight Keller. “It was an English designer, albeit one that was working for a French house, which in a way was a message to the world: ‘Yes, I’m from somewhere else, but I belong.’ I thought she looked fantastic,” Wintour added.

She also brought up Kate Middleton. Wintour didn’t address Meghan and Kate’s rumored feud, but she noted that she thinks they’re a positive influence on the royals. “I think the two young duchesses, the Duchess of Sussex and the Duchess of Cambridge, are going to keep the royal family afloat, quite frankly,” Wintour said.
