Apple will release iOS 13 today, which will bring a slew of new features to the Safari app on the iPhone.

iPhone users who will update to iOS 13 today will receive a host of new and updated features for the Safari app. If these improvements are capable of turning the iPad into a computer replacement (as per iPhoneHacks), they are sure to make Safari a more useful browser on the iPhone.

Here’s a quick glance at the new features iOS 13 brings to Safari.

A new Start page

Safari’s Start Page has been updated to feature a new Siri Suggestions section at the bottom. Siri Suggestions provide quick links to frequently opened websites, and will inform users of links in Messages.

Download manager

Users can now download files using Safari. All users need to do is to tap on a download link, then tap on “Download” once a pop up appears. Current downloads can be viewed or deleted by tapping on the new “Downloads” button that appears on the toolbar.

Safari will store all downloaded files in the Downloads folder in the iCloud Drive by default. Those who want to store downloads to a local folder can do so by going to “Settings,” followed by “Downloads,” then tapping on “On my iPhone.” Users can specify the local folder by tapping on the “Other” option.

Tabs features

Safari has a few new features related to tabs. First, Safari can now save open tabs as a folder in Bookmarks, This can be done by tapping on the Bookmarks icon, then tapping on “Add Bookmarks for X tabs,” a new option that appears. Users can choose where to save the new bookmarks.

Second, users can instruct Safari to automatically close tabs that haven’t been viewed recently.. A pop up will appear when users try to close all tabs, asking users if they want to automatically close Safari tabs. Users can choose whether to close tabs after one day, after one week, or after one month. Users can also choose to not close tabs automatically.

Lastly, users can now jump to an open tab simply by searching for it in the URL tab, then tapping on the desired tab once it appears on the search results.

iOS 13 brings more features to Safari. Check it out by updating to iOS 13 via iTunes. iOS 13 will be followed by iOS 13.1 on Sept. 30.
