The production halt on new episodes of “Young and the Restless” and “Bold and the Beautiful” has officially led to the CBS soaps running out of new episodes to air, but CBS has longtime fans of the shows covered for the time being with replays of classic episodes.

The shows officially ran out of pre-taped episodes on April 23, and after continuing with the Flashback Friday theme the shows have taken to theme weeks in order to give fans the shows they love even though they cannot return to airing new episodes until production is able to resume on their sets. Production on both soaps was ended in March with the hope of returning to work by April 10. However, as the Coronavirus has continued to affect the U.S. and Los Angeles, where the shows tape, the shutdowns have continued. As a result, the shows, which usually tape 4-6 weeks in advance, did run out of new episodes. It is currently unclear when they will be allowed to resume.

For now, that means fans will have to wait and see how drama on the two CBS soaps continues to play out in regards to current storylines. On “Y&R,” that includes updates on Sharon’s (Sharon Case) battle with breast cancer, as well the current Newman family drama surrounding whether Adam (Marc Grossman) or Victor (Eric Braeden) was responsible for a murder that occurred during Adam’s childhood. On “Bold and the Beautiful,” fans will continue waiting with bated breath to see if Wyatt (Darin Brooks) caught a supposedly ill Sally (Courtney Hope) and Dr. Escobar (Monica Ruiz) dragging an unconscious Flo (Katrina Bowden) out of the house.

However, that doesn’t mean the classic episodes that air won’t be ones fans enjoy. The week of April 27 sees both shows bringing classic episodes, as well as some special commentary added in by the casts.

On “Young and the Restless,” this includes a “Katherine the Great” week devoted to episodes featuring the long-departed Katherine Chancellor (Jeanne Cooper). The episodes that will re-air during the week include July 5 and 6, 2004 (Katherine’s intervention), April 3, 2009 (Katherine’s cake fight with Jill [Jess Walton]) and May 4, 2009 (Katherine and Murphy’s wedding).

For “The Bold and the Beautiful,” the week will see fans reliving moments shot on location in Monte Carlo, with special documentary-style looks behind-the-scenes of these special events, followed by replays of specific episodes. Those include replays from 2016, when Quinn (Rena Sofer) followed Eric (John McCook) to the Spencer Summit and their secret relationship was exposed, as well as an episode which saw Bill (Don Diamont) declare his love for Brooke (Katherine Kelly Lang).

Future theme weeks have not been announced yet for either show.

“The Young and the Restless” airs weekdays at 12:30 p.m. on CBS. “The Bold and the Beautiful” airs at 1:30 p.m.
