A cruel babysitter trapped a toddler inside a washing machine and laughed while filming the incident as the 2-year-old boy cried. The disturbing video surfaced online showing the baby pressing his hand against the door in a desperate bid to escape.

The incident reportedly took place when the child's mother, 21-year-old Zaneta D, left the little boy with a friend while she took his father to work in Radom, central Poland. Police launched a child abuse investigation into the cruel act.

The boy was not hurt in the incident, police reportedly said, adding they also found a photograph on the mother's social media of the boy being forced to smoke a cigarette. However, the mother denied having anything to do with the post, claiming she left her phone at home while working.

A 19-year-old man named Mateusz S was arrested by police but was later released without charge. A second man, Adam B, 18, who was looking after the child at the time, was also arrested and could likely face child abuse charges.

Mirosław Wachnik, district prosecutor in Radom, told the Sun if found guilty of child abuse, the accused could face 10 years in prison.

A similar incident took place recently but it did not involve a child. A woman reportedly trapped a dog in a washing machine and posted the video on Instagram. The video shows her dog Cuco inside a washing machine with its face pushed up against the door. The owner later defended the act saying the washing machine was turned off.

Seeing the dog in a distressed state in the Instagram video, several people condemned the woman, calling for her to be punished for mistreating animals. The woman said she treats the dog "as her own son" and that people "misinterpreted" her actions and the animal was only in the washing machine for a few seconds.

While in the latest incident, the child was locked on purpose, there have been several instances in the past where toddlers mistakenly ended up inside washing machines. One such instance in June turned deadly as a three-year-old boy died after accidentally locking himself inside a washing machine during a game of hide and seek with his sister.
