Puerto Rican rapper Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, who is popularly known as Bad Bunny, threw away a female fan's phone into the water. After the video surfaced on social media, the rapper tweeted that he does not regret his action because the fan was disrespectful.

"The person who comes up to me to say hello, to tell me something, or just to meet me, will always receive my attention and respect," Bunny tweeted Monday. "Those who come to put a f--king phone in my face I will consider it for what it is, a lack of respect, and I will treat it likewise."

A video surfaced Sunday on Twitter showing the 28-year-old rapper walking on the street with his staff when a female fan wearing a yellow outfit jumped in front of his face and tried taking a selfie.

Bunny grabbed the phone and threw it into the water near the street.

After Bunny's response, fans seem to be divided on social media. While many agreed that celebrities too need space and fans should treat them with respect, others noted that the rapper didn't handle the situation gracefully.

Content Creator UnTalFredo commented on Bunny's tweet that people should "normalize the fact that artists are human beings and deserve to be treated with respect always." He added, "Below the stage they are not show, you cannot record them without their consent. Approach, say hello and ask for permission."

YouTuber Jorge Berzosa joked about the situation, saying the rapper should have "thrown it on the ground so it would be somewhat broken but as a souvenir and not sunk into the water."

A Twitter user shared an image of a phone hooked to the wrist and captioned it, "Bad Bunny fan starter pack."

Some fans supported Bunny, noting that he mentioned last month about "taking a break" for his physical and emotional health after finishing his "World Hottest Tour," which began in August and ended in December last month.

"I'm taking a break. 2023 is for me, for my physical health, my emotional health to breathe, enjoy my achievements," he told Billboard last month. "We're going to celebrate. Let's go here, let's go there, let's go on the boat. I have a couple of sporadic commitments, and I'll go to the studio, but there's no pressure."
