Electronic pop band Aqua was a musical staple of the 90s that you may not realize you’ve heard before. However, you may become more familiar with them as they are hoping to make a comeback in the form of a Coachella appearance next year.

The Danish-Norwegian group most famous for singing “Barbie Girl” recently announced that they are going on the 90s Nostalgia Tour that will begin its summer concerts in 2020 with fellow 90s electro bands Ace of Base, Eiffel 65, and others. The shows are expected to hit several major Canadian cities. Along with that, TMZ reports that the euro-pop electronica group is advertising themselves for Coachella 2020 as well.

Coachella's 2020 dates are from Friday, April 10 to Sunday, April 19, two months before Aqua goes on their Nostalgia tour.

Coachella artists usually consist of current and relevant popular artists from across different genres. It consists of the main stage, where the biggest acts perform, and several smaller tents, all from contemporary indie, rock, and hip hop artists. Yet, Aqua made their case in a video with TMZ where they mention NSYNC’s Coachella performance earlier this year. The two bands, Aqua front-woman Lene Nystrøm argues, were around during the same era of the late 90s and early 2000s, so it’s not far-fetched to think Coachella would bring back a group from that decade.

Aqua has broken up and gotten back together several times over the years and have never really been able to reproduce the success of their first big hit. The Sun reports that their "Barbie Girl" hit, released in 1997, led to a highly publicized lawsuit with Mattel over the “sexual” nature of their song in regards to Mattel’s popular Barbie toy brand.

As of now, Aqua is back together, but it’s unknown if Coachella will take the bait or if Aqua will have to save their first North American show in over 20 years for the Nostalgia Tour.
