“Battle of the Sexes” starring Emma Stone and Steve Carrell is set to hit theaters in the United States on Sept. 22.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, “Battle of the Sexes” will center on the 1973 tennis match between Billie Jean King and Bobby Riggs, which became one of the most-watched televised sporting events of all time. The match also sparked conversations about gender equality since King (Stone) demanded equal pay at the time. Riggs (Carrell), on the other hand, was trying to protect his reputation while reliving his glory days.

Battle of the Sexes” also stars Alan Cumming as Ted, Andrea Riseborough as Marilyn Barnett, Elisabeth Shue as Riggs’ wife, Austin Stowell as King’s husband, Natalie Morales as Rosie Casals, Jessica McNamee as Margaret Court and Sarah Silverman as Gladys Heldman. It was directed by Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris, and the story was penned by Simon Beaufoy. The film is expected to be released alongside Lionsgate’s “Granite Mountain” and Warner Bros. “Lego Movie” spinoff, “Ninjago.”

Variety was first to report Stone’s involvement in the film in 2015. Filming commenced in April of last year in Los Angeles. The actress just starred in the award-winning film “La La Land,” which was released earlier this year. Stone also won best actress for her role as Mia at the 2017 Academy Awards.

As of late, Stone has not yet commented on the release date of her upcoming biopic. This might be because the actress is not on social media.

While speaking with Elle, the actress admitted that looking at social media has made her crazy so she stopped being active online. “When you see people like, ‘This is the best life ever! I couldn’t be happier,’ you’re like, ‘Shut up, that is not true.’ Not everything comes together in the best way ever, every day. It just doesn’t,” she said.
