KEY POINTS

  • Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez trended on social media due to an allegedly tense conversation at the Grammys
  • A Grammys seat-filler debunked the rumors and said that the couple was "super lovey-dovey"
  • The seat-filler revealed that Affleck found out that people were poking fun at him on social media

Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez were not fighting, and the actor was not "miserable" at the 2023 Grammy Awards Sunday despite the speculations, according to an eyewitness.

Affleck went viral on social media earlier this week after viewers noticed that he looked less than thrilled throughout the 65th Annual Grammy Awards. The "Argo" director, 50, and his wife, 53, were also captured on camera having what some believed was a "tense" exchange at one point during the show.

TikTok user @almostannna — a Grammys seat-filler who sat next to the couple during one portion of the evening — posted a video Wednesday addressing why Affleck looked gloomy during the ceremony at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.

She said that she sat for a "good bit" next to Lopez and Affleck before leaving when Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and his wife Lauren Hashian returned to their seats. Anna clarified that she didn't talk to Lopez and Affleck because the latter "didn't look" happy at the time.

It appeared that the "Justice League" star knew in real time that social media users were poking fun at his facial expressions at the Grammys.

"[Lopez] showed Ben Affleck the phone and was like, 'Oh my God, honey, look at this meme circulating about you!' And he was like, 'Oh God, this again,'" Anna, who has over 30,000 followers on TikTok, said.

She continued, "He knew during the performance that he was a meme. But he also just chose not to change his expression. I love how unbothered that is. So, I know that she was on her phone and saw it and was like, 'Honey, this is so funny, like look at this.' And he was like, 'Jesus Christ.'"

Despite Affleck's grumpy look, he and Lopez enjoyed the night and were "super lovey-dovey" throughout the ceremony, according to the TikToker.

"Their hands were always intertwined ... So it wasn't like, 'Oh my god, this is going to lead to divorce,' like, they were cute," Anna said.

She ended the video, which has 1.9 million views as of writing, by sharing a cute moment between the couple as they were leaving the awards show. Affleck allegedly lifted up the "Dinero" singer's dress too high, and Lopez said, "Honey!"

The "Good Will Hunting" actor and the "Maid in Manhattan" actress made headlines earlier this week after Lopez was caught on camera saying several phrases to her husband while his expression remained stoic.

It is unclear what the actress actually said to Affleck. But a lip reader hired by the Daily Mail claimed that she said, "Stop. Look more friendly. Look motivated."

Affleck's facial expressions at the Grammys spawned memes on Twitter, with fans poking fun at the actor.

"However bad of a day you're having, I promise you're not as miserable as Ben Affleck at the Grammys right now," one user wrote on Twitter.

Another commented, "Ben Affleck just wants the Grammys to be over, J.Lo to go to sleep, a bottle of Jack, four lines of Peruvian [and] an escort. Not too much to ask for."

"Ben Affleck is every introvert everywhere. You can see his batteries draining in real time. Man is already at 23%," a third user joked.

Lopez seemed to debunk the rumors that the couple argued during the Grammys by posting a video that included a clip of her and Affleck sharing a kiss.

"Always the best time with my love, my husband," the singer captioned the video.
