Benedict Cumberbatch is engaged and his fans couldn’t be happier. The “Sherlock” and “The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug" star confirmed his upcoming nuptials in the births, deaths and marriages column of U.K. newspaper The Times on Nov. 5, People magazine is reporting. According to the announcement, Cumberbatch, 38, will be tying the knot to his girlfriend of several months, 36-year-old actress Sophie Hunter.

“Mr. B.T. Cumberbatch and Miss S.I. Hunter: The engagement is announced between Benedict, the son of Wanda and Timothy Cumberbatch of London, and Sophie, daughter of Katharine Hunter of Edinburgh and Charles Hunter of London,” the announcement read under the forthcoming marriages section.

Cumberbatch’s rep reconfirmed the news, saying, “I am delighted to confirm this morning’s announcement that Benedict Cumberbatch and Sophie Hunter are engaged.”

Cumberbatch’s most dedicated group of online fans, who have long since called themselves “Cumberb---hes,” have reacted positively to the news of the film and TV star’s engagement.

“With the mot sincerest of hearts, we offer our unreserved congratulations to both Benedict and Sophie!” the actor’s most popular fan Twitter page, @Cumberb---hes, posted Wednesday. “The news is honestly fantastic and we’re very happy to hear that someone whose acting we admire has found happiness.”

Despite a majority of his fans rejoicing over the news of the actor’s marriage plans, others have continued to taunt the film star’s most dedicated followers on Twitter.

This will be the first marriage for Cumberbatch. He met Hunter in 2009 after co-starring in the film “Burlesque Fairytales.” He was rumored to be asking for Hunter’s hand in marriage in September after he was spotted vacationing with Hunter in Edinburgh. The couple were first linked in June after they were photographed looking cozy at the French Open in Paris. They were most recently seen together attending the premiere of Cumberbatch’s film “The Imitation Game," in London, Oct. 8.
