Even though some celebrities appear to have the perfect love story, 2021 has proven that love in Hollywood doesn’t last forever. While ongoing rumors prepared fans for some high-profile breakups, other splits were completely unexpected.

Below is a list of the biggest celebrity breakups of 2021:

Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez

A month after breakup rumors began to spread, Lopez and Rodriguez released a joint statement announcing their split. “We will continue to work together and support each other on our shared businesses and projects. We wish the best for each other and one another’s children,” the statement read.

“Out of respect for them, the only other comment we have to say is thank you to everyone who has sent kind words and support.”

Zayn Malik and Gigi Hadid

Following nearly six years of an on-and-off relationship, Entertainment Tonight confirmed the couple split in October. The breakup up news came amid reports Malik got into a physical altercation with Hadid’s mother Yolanda. Malik and Hadid share daughter Khai, 15 months, together.

Camila Cabello and Shawn Mendes

Fans were waiting for years for the singers to get together following their 2015 collaboration of “I Know What You Did Last Summer.” Mendes and Cabello didn’t start dating until 2019, however, a little more than two years later on Nov. 17, the couple announced their split.

“We’ve decided to end our romantic relationship but our love for one another as humans is stronger than ever,” the two said in a joint statement.

“We started our relationship as best friends and will continue to be best friends. We so appreciate your support from the beginning and moving forward.”

Kaley Cuoco and Karl Cook

Following three years of marriage, Cuoco and Cook called off their relationship. At the time of their breakup, the two claimed their lives had taken them in “opposite directions.”

“We have both shared so much of our journey publicly so while we would prefer to keep this aspect of our personal life private, we wanted to be forthcoming in our truth together. There is no anger or animosity, quite the contrary,” the couple said in a joint statement.

Miguel and Nazanin Mandi

The former couple dated for 10 years before getting engaged in 2016. By November 2018, the two married in a ceremony in Simi Valley, California but announce their split a little less than three years later.

“After 17 years together, Miguel and Nazanin Mandi have decided to separate and have been for some time now,” a rep for the stars said in a statement released in September 2021. “The couple both wish each other well.”

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West

Following months of speculation, Kardashian filed for divorce from the “Donda” rapper in February. The former couple, who married in May 2014, share four children, North, Saint, Chicago, and Psalm.

Bill Gates and Melinda Gates

The ultimate power couple announced their split in May after almost three decades together. “After a great deal of thought and a lot of work on our relationship, we have made the decision to end our marriage,” the Gates' wrote in a Twitter post at the time.

“Over the last 27 years, we have raised three incredible children and built a foundation that works all over the world to enable all people to lead healthy, productive lives. We continue to share a belief in that mission and will continue our work together at the foundation, but we no longer believe we can grow together as a couple in this next phase of our lives. We ask for space and privacy for our family as we begin to navigate this new life.”

Khloe Kardashian and Tristan Thompson

The pair broke up once again in June after rekindling their romance in August 2020. Although news of the split surfaced amid ongoing cheating rumors suggesting Thompson was once again unfaithful to Kardashian, sources told E! News “there was no drama” that led to the breakup.

Kate Bosworth and Michael Polish

In August, the “Forces of Nature” star announced she and the Polish director would be going their separate ways, eight years after they tied the knot in a Montana ceremony.

“Our hearts are full, as we have never been so enamored and deeply grateful for one another as we do in this decision to separate,” Bosworth wrote in an Instagram post.

“Together, over the last ten years, Michael and I have chosen love, every time. We hold hands as tightly today as we entangled fingers on our wedding day.”

Scooter Braun and Yael Braun

Just days after their seventh wedding anniversary, sources revealed the couple separated in July. At the time of the split, the music executive was still living with his wife and their three children and “operating as a family.” Those close to the Brauns revealed there were no immediate plans to divorce.

Nelly and Shantel Jackson

Following six years together, the “Country Grammar” rapper quietly split with his girlfriend in July. Jackson confirmed the breakup after a fan asked if the two were still together on Instagram. The model replied by writing, “No we’re not ….. Just friends.”

La La Anthony and Carmelo Anthony

La La officially pulled the plug on her marriage to the NBA player in June when she filed for divorce following more than a decade of marriage. The former couple, who shares a son Kiyan, had been on the rocks following the athlete’s 2016–17 regular season and briefly reconciled in 2018.
