It had barely been a month since television host Bill Maher made his last racist statement. He broke his streak Friday when he took to Twitter to offer his offensive commentary on North Korea and their weapons program becoming a dangerous reality.

“This [North] Korean thing is getting tense! I mean, I think it is, I'm on vaca. The ladies at my nail salon are freaking out, that's what I know,” he tweeted. The post, a reference to the disproportionate number of North Asian women workers in nail salons, quickly garnered more than 1,600 reactions after being posted for less than 30 minutes.

Scores of netizens started to comment on Maher’s tweet. A majority of people slammed the comedian for his offensive message.

Maher has a history of trying to be funny, but coming off as blatantly racist. His last offense was when he used the N-word on the HBO program “Real Time with Bill Maher” in June.

He swiftly offered an apology — sort-of.

“The comic mind goes to a weird place sometimes,” Maher said in his half-hearted mea culpa. “But it doesn’t matter that it wasn’t said in malice — it wasn’t — if it brought back pain to people. That’s why I apologize freely and I reiterate it tonight. That’s sincere.”

The comedian then added: “The word was offensive and I regret saying it and am very sorry.”

He dropped the N-word during a June 3 interview with Republican Sen. Ben Sasse of Nebraska.

They were talking about adults dressing up for Halloween. Sasse suggested that comedian come to Nebraska and tend to the fields. After Maher used the N-word, many people on Twitter wanted him fired — especially since it wasn’t the first time he said something racist.

Maher suggested in 2015 that a majority of Muslims supported the Charlie Hebdo attack in Paris where 12 people were killed.

He said: “I know most Muslim people would not have carried out an attack like this...But here’s the important point. Hundreds of millions of them support an attack like this. They applaud an attack like this. What they say is, we don’t approve of violence, but you know what, when you make fun of the prophet, all bets are off.”

In 2008, he disparaged Hillary Clinton's campaign strategy. “I’m not trying to be sexist here, but I’m just saying that women try a lot of different tacks when they’re in arguments… I’m not being sexist, I’m just saying that men, when we argue, we’re kind of a one-trick pony — we try our thing, and then we sulk when we don’t get our way,” he said at the time.

He dug himself deeper when he played clips from Clinton on the campaign trail. “Because the first thing a woman does, of course, is cry… and then they go to sweet talking… and then they throw an anger fit totally unrelated to anything…. And when it doesn't work, they bring out the sarcasm,” he said.
